Bringing AI into Your Clinical Practice: What You Need to Know

April 9, 2026

Course description

Despite the remarkable advances in the development of AI for healthcare, the implementation of AI into clinical practice has lagged. Among medical specialties, radiology has seen intense scientific and commercial growth in AI: of the 1000+ AI systems cleared for clinical use by the FDA, more than 760 are in radiology. Relatively few systems, however, are in routine clinical use.

In this presentation, Charles E. Kahn Jr., MD, – a practicing radiologist, AI researcher and editor of a leading scientific AI journal – will address the challenges and considerations for implementing AI systems into clinical practice, using radiology as an example. He will also outline processes for evaluating clinical AI systems and strategies for monitoring them after implementation.

Learning objectives

At the conclusion of this learning activity, participants will be able to:

  • Summarize a framework to employ AI into your clinical practice
  • Outline a strategy to implement and monitor AI
  • Identify key questions to ask of commercial AI developers
