Long COVID-19: The Pandemic After the Pandemic
Course description
This presentation will address how to diagnose and begin to treat the large and growing number of patients with long COVID-19, also known as Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS-COV-2, or PASC. Patients with persisting or new symptoms 28 days after their COVID-19 illness face a potentially long road of fatigue, brain fog, GI disturbances, dyspnea, and many other challenges. The medical community is learning how to best treat these patients, but there is much more we will need to understand about this widespread, and at times disabling disease. Join us as Kristin Englund, MD, MS – infectious disease physician at the Cleveland Clinic – walks us through what we know so far and describes what’s being done to care for patients with long COVID-19.
Learning objectives
At the conclusion of this learning activity, participants will be able to:
- Recognize the epidemiology of long COVID-19 patients and the scope of the disease
- Identify symptoms and types of long COVID-19
- Summarize treatment options and plans for future research related to long COVID-19
- Recognize ways to avoid non-evidence-based “trends” in treatment
- Describe strategies for engaging patients in their own care
Target audience
Physician and clinician policyholders
