Leading with Civility: Cultivating Respect, Safety and Trust in Anesthesia (Part 2)
Course description
Respect, safety and trust are necessary when working in anesthesiology teams, yet they can be difficult to cultivate amid ongoing staff shortages and constantly shifting team dynamics. When leaders act with incivility rather than fostering trust and respect, they can create psychologically unsafe environments for both staff and patients – increasing the risk of adverse events in the operating room.
In part two of his webinar series on leadership in anesthesia care, Dr. Sherrer will examine the role of incivility in healthcare settings. He will explore how uncivil behaviors affect professional relationships, with a particular focus on their impact on colleagues and patients alike. Attendees will gain practical tools for promoting civility and collective communication – key components in building stronger, safer anesthesiology teams.
Learning objectives
At the conclusion of this learning activity, participants will be able to:
- Define incivility and how it differs from other related behaviors
- Discuss the impact of incivility in the healthcare setting
- Define "fault lines" in hospital teams
- Summarize the concept of a "collaborative conflict culture"
