Pain Management and Opioids: Balancing Risks and Benefits, Part 1

August 16, 2019

Course Description

The opioid epidemic continues to impact the U.S. The numbers don’t lie: Two out of three drug-related overdose deaths involve an opioid, killing over 47,000 people in 2017.1 Of those deaths, 36% involved prescription opioids.2

It’s imperative that physicians and clinicians understand how to best manage their patient’s pain – whether it’s using opioids or another treatment plan. This webinar aims to outline ways to assess pain, develop a treatment plan, and identify risks and benefits of choosing an opioid treatment plan.

  • Describe the pathophysiology of pain as it relates to the concepts of pain management
  • Accurately assess patients in pain
  • Develop a safe and effective pain treatment plan
  • Identify evidence-based non-opioid options for the treatment of pain
  • Identify the risks and benefits of opioid therapy
