Course Description
Finding ways to effectively engage and educate patients about factors that affect their individual health and the health of the community is among the many challenges physicians face. Increasingly physicians are turning to social media as vehicle through which to influence patients and spread important health concepts beyond the confines of a clinical setting.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this learning activity, participants will be able to:
- Explain reasons why social media can be a good source of health information for patients and the public
- Identify the most important considerations when starting to build a social media presence
- Describe strategies for managing and combatting health-related disinformation through your social media presence

Zachary Rubin, MD
Dr. Rubin is an allergist at Oak Brook Allergists in the western suburbs of Chicago. Outside of his clinical practice, he teaches the public about the field of allergy through social media and has over 1.5 million followers across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter/X.
He serves on the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology’s social media subcommittee and encourages other allergists to educate on social media. He has been featured in several news outlets, including the Washington Post, New York Times, NBC News, The Today Show, New York Post, USA Today, Bloomberg News, ABC7 Chicago, and The Atlantic.
