Course Description
Physicians are increasingly finding themselves part of larger and more complex healthcare organizations and working in environments where individuals who aren’t physicians seem to be calling the shots. Studies have shown that patients and organizations benefit from having physicians in key leadership positions, yet many doctors don’t know how to apply their existing skills to help manage and lead at the organizational or institutional level.
The Illinois State Medical Society invites you to join Karen Nichols, DO, respected national and international educator on the topics of physician leadership and women leaders in medicine, for a program that will help physicians understand how they can apply their skills and expertise as clinical leaders to increase their effectiveness as leaders in their organizations and as advocates for the practice of medicine and optimal patient care.
Learning objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:
- Describe core leadership skills that physicians should nurture
- Provide examples of successful projects or initiatives that can be attributed to effective physician leadership
- Discuss how physicians can identify unrecognized opportunities to exercise effective leadership
