Course description

In this session, Dr. Elizabeth Viglianti will provide a clear and thorough explanation of sexual harassment as defined by recent research, ensuring attendees grasp the legal framework and its implications. Participants will learn to identify behaviors that constitute unlawful sexual harassment as well as gain insights into best practices for implementing corrective measures and creating a safe, respectful workplace environment. Dr. Viglianti will also highlight relevant federal and state statutory provisions and the legal remedies available to victims, underscoring the importance of an informed approach to addressing these issues. Additionally, the presentation will outline the critical responsibilities of employers in the prevention, investigation and resolution of sexual harassment incidents.

Elizabeth M. Viglianti, MD, MPH, MSc

Elizabeth M. Viglianti, MD, MPH, MScElizabeth M. Viglianti, MD, MPH, MSc, is an Assistant Professor in Internal Medicine specializing in Pulmonary and Critical Care at the University of Michigan. Dr. Viglianti earned her Doctor of Medicine from Duke University, Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina, and her Master of Science from the University of Michigan. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Pulmonary Critical Care at the University of Michigan.

Board-certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care, Dr. Viglianti focuses on the evolution of persistent critical illness and improving patient survivorship. Her research also explores preventing and mitigating sexual harassment impacts in medicine.

Dr. Viglianti is the principal investigator for several prominent grants, and her work is supported by the NIH, AHRQ, and the VA. Her acclaimed work has earned her numerous awards, such as the American Thoracic Society's Critical Care Early Career Achievement Award and the American Society for Clinical Investigation's Young Physician-Scientist Award.
