Human Trafficking: Practical Approaches and Resources in a Healthcare Setting
Course description
Participants will learn how to effectively aid survivors by gaining knowledge about available anti-trafficking resources and support networks. The session will also cover how to conduct a trauma-informed history and exam, ensuring that medical care is compassionate and respectful of the survivor's experiences. Attendees will also explore strategies for safe assessment, prioritizing the survivor's well-being throughout the healthcare encounter. Actionable preventative measures and how to get involved in anti-trafficking efforts will also be covered.
The Illinois State Medical Society invites you to join Traci Kurtzer, MD, the Medical Director for Trauma Informed Care and Education for the Department of Obstetrics at Northwestern Medicine, for a program that will equip healthcare professional with practical tools and approaches to support survivors of sex and labor trafficking.

Traci Kurtzer, MD
Dr. Kurtzer is the Medical Director for Trauma Informed Care and Education for the Department of Obstetrics and now dedicates her career to providing specialized trauma informed gynecology services at the Center for Sexual Medicine and Menopause. She also works as the gynecologist for the Comprehensive Care after Covid-19 Center team.
She regularly lectures on domestic violence, human trafficking, and on the intersection of firearms and gender-based violence. She is a founding member and past Co-chair for the Healthcare Committee of the Cook County Human Trafficking Task Force and works in collaboration with many other community and civic organizations working on prevention of interpersonal violence.
